A fledgling from the nest,
Where I became myself.
The most enchanting of all,
The strongest, most beautiful.
Aviary amass with creatures of every size and kind;
The sparrow without a song.
Never a melody,
Shrouded in mystery.
Perched oh so silently,
Upon the tallest tree.
I ask vehemently,
If he will sing for me.
His eyes are torturing me with a silent plea.
Upon his perch as ever,
Scarcely a twitter left his beak.
He was the centerpiece of our menagerie.
None in our midst could find a single flaw,
And when they did they loved him more.
Flutter clumsily to his side,
Silent like never before,
At last I understood.
He'd answer if I'd only take a breath.
There was a melody all along for me.
He perched so silently,
Upon the tallest tree.
Because I didn't leave him with a moment's peace,
His eyes are torturing me.
